A Milestone Moment for Bridgeport’s Waterfront Development and Economic Growth

Bridgeport’s waterfront continues its remarkable transformation with the groundbreaking of the Residence Inn by Marriott at Steelpointe Harbor, a milestone that signals new opportunity, job creation, and economic momentum for the city.

The event, held at Steelpointe Harbor, brought together community members, local and state officials, and development leaders to celebrate this next chapter in Bridgeport’s ongoing revitalization.

Speakers included Robert Christoph Jr., Developer of Steelpointe Harbor; Chris Harlow, Executive Vice President of True North Hotel Group, Inc.; Commissioner of Economic and Community Development Daniel O’Keefe; Governor Ned Lamont; Bridgeport Mayor Joseph Ganim; Council President Aidee Nieves; East Side Councilwoman Maria Valle; State Representative Chris Rosario; and Bridgeport Regional Business Council President Dan Onofrio.

Each leader highlighted how the new hotel will enhance Bridgeport’s growing waterfront district by attracting tourism, supporting local businesses, and creating employment opportunities.

“This hotel represents not just growth, but opportunity,” said Robert Christoph Jr. “It’s a symbol of what’s possible when the public and private sectors work together to move Bridgeport forward.”

The Residence Inn by Marriott will provide modern, extended-stay accommodations designed for both business and leisure travelers. The project is being developed in partnership with True North Hotel Group, an experienced hospitality operator known for creating high-quality hotel experiences nationwide.

Once complete, the hotel will enhance and elevate Steelpointe Harbor’s growing ecosystem, complementing nearby destinations such as Bass Pro Shops, Boca Oyster Bar, Bridgeport Harbor Marina, and the Hartford HealthCare Amphitheater. Together, these attractions will position Steelpointe Harbor as a premier regional destination for entertainment, dining, and leisure. Additional projects, including North Sails, Bridgeport Boatworks, and the new gas station and car wash, will further strengthen the area’s appeal and support the success of the new hotel.

Governor Ned Lamont praised the development as a key example of Bridgeport’s progress and the state’s commitment to revitalizing its urban centers. “When we invest in projects like Steelpointe, we’re investing in people, in jobs, housing, tourism, and the future of Connecticut’s cities,” he said.

The groundbreaking celebration marked an important step toward realizing the full vision for Steelpointe Harbor, a dynamic mixed-use waterfront destination that blends residential, retail, hospitality, and community spaces. With the addition of the Residence Inn, that vision moves closer to completion, creating a lasting impact for the local economy and residents alike.

A Vision Taking Shape

Steelpointe Harbor has evolved into one of Connecticut’s most ambitious redevelopment projects, a symbol of Bridgeport’s resurgence as a city on the rise. With luxury housing like The August underway, new workforce units, and growing community partnerships, the addition of the Residence Inn by Marriott underscores Steelpointe’s role as a driver of regional progress.

Looking Ahead

Construction on the hotel will begin immediately following the groundbreaking, with more updates expected in the coming months. As the waterfront continues to evolve, the Steelpointe team remains focused on its mission: to build a place where Bridgeport’s future thrives — for residents, visitors, and businesses alike.
